Tsitsikamma National Park is a spectacular natural region and conservation area in South Africa’s Garden Route
“Tsitsikamma” is a Khoekhoe word meaning “place of abundant or sparkling water.”
It’s known for its dramatic rugged coastline, deep river gorges, lush indigenous forests, fynbos vegetation, waterfalls, and rich biodiversity of land and marine life.
The area includes coastal sections, rivers that cut through ancient forests to the sea, and one of Africa’s oldest marine protected areas.
Tsitsikamma protects temperate coastal forests, pockets of fynbos, indigenous trees like the Outeniqua yellowwood, and abundant bird and animal life.
In the adjacent marine protected area, you can find dolphins, whales (in season), seabirds and intertidal marine species along the rocky coastline
Hiking Trails: The world-famous Otter Trail — a multi-day coastal hike — as well as shorter scenic trails in forests and along the shore.
Storms River Mouth: A highlight with suspension bridges over the river gorges and sea views.
Adventure Activities: Kayaking, snorkeling, canopy tours, tubing, and more.
Bungee Jumping: The nearby Bloukrans Bridge (border of Tsitsikamma) is famous for one of the world’s highest commercial bungee jumps.
